  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with sour cream alternately until just mixed.
  6. Gently fold in apples and nuts if using.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
