  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 0.33 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for cake)
  • 12 oz evaporated milk
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 0.5 cup whole milk or heavy cream (for soaking)
  • 1.5 cups cold heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)
  • 1.5 cups fresh strawberries (sliced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Beat egg yolks with 3/4 cup sugar until pale; mix in whole milk and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  5. In another bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add remaining sugar until stiff peaks form.
  6. Fold egg whites into the batter gently.
  7. Pour into a greased baking dish; bake for about 25-30 minutes.
  8. Allow the cake to cool completely before poking holes in it with a fork.
  9. Whisk together evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and additional milk; pour over the cooled cake to soak.
  10. Refrigerate for at least two hours or overnight.
  11. Before serving, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff; spread over the cake and top with sliced strawberries.
