  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (frozen)
  • ⅔ cup cold buttermilk
  • 1 large egg (separated)
  • ¾ cup finely chopped cooked chicken

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Stir in chives and cheddar cheese. Grate frozen butter into the mixture and blend until crumbly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together cold buttermilk and egg yolk; add to the flour mixture along with cooked chicken. Mix until combined.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface; shape into an eight-inch disc and cut into wedges.
  5. Brush tops with a mixture of egg white and buttermilk; sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before baking on a lined sheet for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
