  • 1 lb smoked sausage (chicken or turkey)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 2 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sweet BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish
  • Crushed red pepper flakes for garnish
  • Shredded cheese for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced sausage and brown for 2–3 minutes on each side. Remove from pan.
  2. In the same skillet, lower heat and add rinsed rice, toasting for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
  4. Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce; mix well.
  5. Return browned sausage to the skillet, cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
  6. Let sit covered for an additional 5 minutes before fluffing the rice and serving.
