  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 pastry for double pie crust
  • 23 tablespoons butter (diced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the pie crust by lining a 9-inch pie plate with the bottom crust.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the prepared crust and dot with butter pieces.
  5. Place the top crust over the filling and seal the edges. Cut slits in the top for steam to escape.
  6. Brush with milk or an egg wash and sprinkle additional sugar on top.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then reduce temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake an additional 30 minutes until golden brown.
