  • 3/4 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chopped stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground beef with minced garlic and chopped onions for about 10 minutes until cooked through. Drain excess liquid.
  2. Stir in chopped stewed tomatoes, beef broth, chili powder, ground cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
  3. Reduce heat to low and cover; let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally to meld flavors.
  4. Add rinsed pinto beans and salt; cook for an additional 15 minutes before serving hot.
