Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 French bread loaf (16 oz, fresh and crusty)
  • 8 oz flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 1 cup provolone cheese (shredded)
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup bell peppers (sliced, mixed colors)
  • 1 cup sweet onions (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté sliced onions and bell peppers in olive oil until soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Push veggies aside, add seasoned flank steak to the skillet, and cook until browned for about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Slice the French bread loaf lengthwise and scoop out some soft bread from the center to create a hollow channel.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine cooked steak, sautéed vegetables, shredded cheese, and minced garlic while hot.
  6. Generously stuff the mixture into each half of the hollowed bread and pack it in firmly.
  7. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until cheese is bubbling and crust is golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before slicing; serve warm with marinara sauce or garlic aioli.
