  • 240 g all-purpose flour
  • 200 g apples (grated)
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 100 g dark brown sugar
  • 110 g vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 140 g sour cream
  • 100 g butter (for buttercream)
  • 165 g powdered sugar
  • 23 tsp caramel sauce
  • 25 g butter (for caramel sauce)
  • 100 g heavy cream (for caramel sauce)
  • Pinch of salt (for caramel sauce)
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground all spice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare homemade salted caramel sauce by combining granulated sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown. Remove from heat and whisk in butter, heavy cream, and salt. Let cool.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and all spice.
  3. In another bowl, combine granulated sugar, dark brown sugar, grated apples, vegetable oil, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Pour batter into a greased cake pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While cooling, prepare buttercream by mixing room temperature butter with powdered sugar and cooled caramel sauce until smooth.
  7. Frost the cooled cake with buttercream and drizzle additional caramel sauce if desired.
